Overview

Tamaruya Honten Steakhouse, nestled within the vibrant Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, presents a refined take on Japanese steakhouse dining. Its location on the lower ground level offers an accessible yet quiet culinary retreat amid the bustling shopping complex.

Specializing in premium cuts such as Wagyu ribeye steak and tender Angus beef, the restaurant skillfully balances high-quality ingredients with thoughtful preparation. The grilled Hokkaido scallops and seafood tamaruya doria add a delicate coastal touch, complementing the rich flavors found throughout the menu. Signature dishes include the hearty mushroom soup and comforting potato stew, which offer warmth and depth often missed in typical steakhouse fare.

The dining experience here is characterized by attentive, if minimal, service and a calm, spacious setting. Although the restaurant may feel underpopulated at times, this adds to the unhurried atmosphere allowing diners to choose their seats and savor each dish without rush. Portions lean towards moderate, favoring quality over quantity, making it ideal for those who appreciate precise, crafted flavors rather than oversized servings.

Targeted toward patrons who seek an authentic Japanese steakhouse experience enriched by thoughtfully prepared seafood and traditional sides, Tamaruya Honten resonates both with families and small groups looking for a casual yet elevated meal. Its balanced menu selections, from the grilled salmon to the yakisoba, provide a satisfying range that caters well to Japanese cuisine enthusiasts and steak lovers alike.

While some find the pricing slightly higher relative to portion sizes, the consensus highlights genuine culinary craftsmanship and flavor integrity. Dishes like the Angus beef with mushroom sauce and the grilled salmon consistently impress, delivering tender textures and harmonious seasoning. The mushroom soup stands out, warmly praised for its inviting richness.

Overall, Tamaruya Honten Steakhouse shines as a hidden gem within LaLaport, offering a quiet haven for those in pursuit of authentic Japanese flavors with the star of the menu being expertly prepared steak and fresh seafood. It is a compelling choice for diners who value quality ingredients, meticulous cooking, and a peaceful dining environment in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

A little pricey and portions small but food is high quality and tasty . The mushroom soup is good. Angus beef with the mushroom sauce is nicely cooked . Had the Baramundi as well which was not bad . Restaurant was empty when we came so the food came out quick

Dining today 5/12/2025 for lunch with family. The restaurant was not busy even during lunch time. We were allowed to choose our table. We were given the menu and ample of times to choose what we wanna order. They are having this 3-course dinner set for only RM 58 nett per person and others set menu. We chose the normal set menu; NIKUJAGA SET (RM21.20 NETT 'Beef and potato stew served with rice), YAKINIKU SET (RM24.40 NETT Grilled sliced beef with Yakiniku sauce served with rice) and GRILLED SALMON SET (RM26.50 NETT Grilled salmon with Tamaruya sauce served with rice). The beef was very tender and tasty. The grilled salmon was delicious but rather small portion. The beef stew was palatable. The miso soup was a bit salty compared with the other Japanese miso soup that I tried. The hot drinks cannot be refilled. Overall, the dining experience was good and would consider to come back to try out their 3-course dinner set.

First time here, not a busy restaurant unlike the others perhaps is already past 8pm. Decent food portions with a reasonable price. Service is good, although there is only 2 crew members running the whole restaurant.

We came just 10 mins before their last order for lunch. Ordered the set meals of rice, miso soup and potato salad with yakiniku, unagi, chicken katsu curry & grilled salmon. Service was reasonably quick considering everything was cooked fresh. It was a decent meal, tasty for what we paid. It was a pleasant meal. Will go back. Maybe next time to try their steaks, which is what they are known for.

Superb dining experience! I ordered the Japanese wagu steak and my mum ordered the salmon from the Xmas special set. The steak was perfectly cooked and the salmon was cooked with a crusty top and moist inside. Overall a lovely combination of flavours for all dishes served. In regards to staff, super friendly and professional. The restaurant itself is clean and well presented. Loved our Xmas dinner here. Thank you to the team for a memorable experience.
